Alev Kelter

Eagle River’s Alev Kelter was in the middle of the action for the Team USA women’s sevens rugby team that placed fourth at the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

With the effort, the Americans secured 14 points and third-place standing in qualifying with four tournaments left. The top four teams earn automatic berths to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Kelter, of Chugiak High fame, scored 14 of her team’s 21 points in a bronze-medal loss to Australia, which converted the go-ahead try as time expired to prevail 26-21.

The 5-foot-6 bruiser delivered a devastating stiff arm on an Aussie defender en route to scoring her first try. She added another try and a pair of two-point conversions.

Overall, she accumulated 22 of Team USA’s 98 points in six games during the two-day tournament.
