Gina Mazany

Anchorage’s Gina Mazany doled out plenty of punishment to earn a third-round TKO in the women’s flyweight division at UFC Vegas 15.

The 32-year-old Alaska fighter landed more significant strikes and finished off Rachael Ostovich with a lethal left leg front kick to the midsection with just 10 seconds left.

This was Mazany’s first UFC win since 2017.

She improved to 2-4 in the biggest and baddest MMA league in the world.

Her six UFC appearances are tied for third most among Alaskans.

Mazany, of Bartlett High fame, improved her pro record to 7-4.

She also got a congratulatory shoutout tweet from fellow Alaskan fighter Lauren Murphy, a flyweight title contender.

Mazany showcased strong wrestling skills and pinned Ostovich (4-6) against the cage several times to control the momentum in the first round.

Early in the second round, Mazany successfully gained position on Ostovich’s back and attempted a choke hold.

Mazany also slammed her opponent to the mat and landed several blows to the body and head.

The third round was much of the same, with Mazany throwing fists, backhands and kicks to leave Ostovich dazed and confused.

Mazany finished things off in the later stages to pick up her first finish as a UFC fighter.
