Anchorage native Jack Bartlett set national powerlifting records for his age and weight.

A former Mears Middle School and Bowman Elementary student now living in Bend, Oregon, the 16-year-old lifted 578lbs in the squat and 314lbs in the bench press competing in the 125kg class.

The junior only recently got into competitive weight lifting with motivation from his football coach.

Bartlett took two Oregon state powerlifting titles earlier this fall.

The athlete of the week recipient is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.
