Sean Rash
Anchorage bowling star Sean Rash has come up clutch so many times it oughta be his middle name.
The 16-year PBA Tour vet did it again to win the Chesapeake Open in Virginia, where he rallied in the final frame to snatch victory from top seed Tom Daugherty of Florida.
Needing a strike with his first ball to extend the tenth frame, Rash did that and more to highlight a 228-212 triumph in the championship match.
Rash, of Dimond High fame, has now won 17 PBA Tour titles –tying him with Hall of Famer Carmen Salvino for 22nd place all-time.
Twenty-five years after Rash rolled his first 300 game at Jewel Lake Bowl in Anchorage, he ranks among the greatest champions since the PBA started in 1958.
This title came on his 39th birthday, the perfect present he wrapped himself.
Rash came into the stepladder finals as the No. 2 seed and beat 20-time winner and No. 4 seed Tommy Jones in the semifinals, 248-216.
With his title, Rash moved into seventh place in the PBA Summer Tour points race, which will net him his share of the $40,000 bonus prize fund.
