Jeremiah Bailey

A performance like this has been brewing inside Jeremiah Bailey of Fairbanks for the last few weeks.

After stringing together several games with double figures, the Fairbanks native broke out for a season-high 24 points for the University of the Pacific in a 63-57 road loss to UC Davis.

The 6-foot-6 senior pumped in half of the team’s 36 points in the second half and carried Pacific back from a 15-point halftime deficit. His free throw tied the game at 52 with 3 minutes left.

He led the comeback charge by hitting two 3-pointers, draining three mid-range jumpers, sinking four free throws and adding a steal-layup combo to wake up his team after it sleepwalked through the first half.

Bailey, of Monroe Catholic High fame, was Mr. Everything for Pacific. He played a team-high 35 minutes and was the only player to score double digits and make multiple 3s. He attempted twice as many foul shots as anybody on his team and tied for the team lead with six defensive rebounds.

Bailey leads Pacific with a 14-point scoring average, up from 11.3 last season.

The 24-point total was his third-highest in 90 career NCAA Division I games and came up to his career high of 28 points set last season against Loyola Marymount. Bailey now has 981 career points, moving up to 47th on Alaska’s all-time scoring list for college players from The Last Frontier.

Brad Oleson

Kyle Bailey

Jim Hajdukovich

He sits just outside the top-10 among Interior Alaska players and will be looking to catch guys like Dale Bartley (1,005) and Eric Brown (1,077) of Lathrop, Kevin Rima (1,079) from Hutchinson and Travon Brackett (1,087) out of West Valley.

His brother Kyle scored 1,571 at Santa Clara, making the Bailey bros one of Alaska’s most explosive combos.

Both Bailey bros earned All-West Coast Conference honors and Jeremiah is on the verge of joining Kyle in the 1,000-point club.

They would become the second Fairbanks brother duo to do that, joining Jim and Mike Hajdukvoich out of Monroe Catholic.

North Pole’s Brad Oleson ranks No. 1 all-time among Alaska players with 2,478 career points. He played three seasons at UAF and one season at Peninsula in the NWAC.
