Adam Hendrix

Anchorage poker pro Adam Hendrix is closing in on surpassing $1 million in tournament earnings this year.

Hendrix last week finished eighth in a field of 1,258 players in an event at the World Poker Tour’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open in Hollywood, Calif., to earn $73,065. The event, a No-Limit Hold em High Roller tournament, required a $25,500 buy-in, or entry fee.

According to the database at thehendonmob.com, Hendrix’s eight-place finish marked his 28th tournament cash this year and brought his 2021 tournament earnings to $962,212.

Hendrix in 2021 has finished in the top 10 of eight tournaments and in the top five of five tournaments. On four occasions this year, he has won more than $100,000 in a tournament and on nine occasions he has won more than $20,000.

Hendrix’s most lucrative finish this year came in September, when he won the Pot Limit Omaha event at the Poker Masters on the PokerGo Tour in Las Vegas. Hendrix walked away with $186,300 after he topped 69 entrants who put up a $10,000 buy-in. His other win came in January on the World Poker Tour when he won a No-Limit event at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Hollywood. He outlasted a field of 415 in the $600 buy-in event to rake $43,814.

According to thehendonmob.com, Hendrix owns career live tournament winnings of $2,388,157. That tops the money list among Alaska players and is more than twice as much as runner-up David Green ($1,126,649), who in the 1970s won three bracelets at the World Series of Poker – those bracelets awarded to event winners are the most coveted jewelry in poker. Green in 1981 finished runner-up to the legendary Stu Ungar in the World Series of Poker Main Event.
