Anchorage basketball player Da’Zhon Wyche was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after putting up huge numbers for University of Texas Tyler.

The 5-foot-9 guard pumped in a season-high 28 points in the Patriots 63-52 win over host Western New Mexico. Wyche scored 13 of Tyler’s first 15 points and finished the first half with 18.

He was even better at the end of the game when he went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final 1:33 to ice the team’s third conference win of the season for head coach Louis Wilson, who is from Anchorage and graduated from East High.

Wyche, of West High fame, registered a 21-point effort only three days earlier.

The senior was averaging 12.3 points per game and has amassed 1,369 career points in is college career so far.
