They say it’s better to be lucky than good, but Daisy Page of Anchorage had the best of both worlds in today’s walk-off win.

The Mississippi Valley State University senior pitcher looked to be headed toward a hard-luck loss against Alabama State before her team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a 4-3 comeback victory.

The result handed Page a gift-wrapped win, moving her record to 7-5 in 15 games.

Page, of East High fame, got lucky today but she’s been as good as it gets across her last eight appearances since March 2, posting a 6-1 record and 1.18 earned-run average in 53 innings.

The right-hander delivered another excellent effort with her fifth straight complete-game effort as she continues to be a bright spot for a NCAA Division I team with just nine victories. (Remember, she has seven of them).

Led by Page, Mississippi Valley claimed the three-game SWAC series 2-1 against Alabama State, with the Alaskan earning the winning decision in Games 1 and 3.

In the opener, she highlighted a 4-3 victory after she scattered seven hits over seven innings and retired eight of nine batters with a runner in scoring position before dropping the hammer with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to seal the deal.

In the finale, she allowed five hits and zero walks over seven innings and none of the three runs were earned.

Alabama State took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning after the leadoff hitter singled and advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored one-out RBI single.

In the seventh inning, Mississippi Valley rallied for two runs with one out for the team’s sixth win in one-run games.

After her team started the season 0-9, Page has spearheaded Mississippi Valley’s turnaround as she has gone 7-2 to key the team’s 9-9 record over its last 18 games.
