Lars Arneson of Anchorage was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after winning his firstSpartan obstacle race in Ontario, Canada.
Arneson prevailed in the 21-kilometer “Beast” event that featured 30 obstacles and more than 6,000 feet of elevation gain
The native of Soldotna won in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 30 seconds, besting fellow American Tyler Veerman (2:08:28) and Canadian Spartan legend Ryan Atkins (2:09:20).
Known for his mountain running resume, Arneson has recently branched out into Spartan racing and prior to his victory had three top-five finishes in his five other Spartan race starts.
