Anchorage wrestler Manny Novelli was named Alaska Athlete of the Week after achieving a spectacular double at the USA Wrestling Kids Nationals in Farmington, Utah on June 26th and 27th.
Novelli was named National Champion in both wrestling styles (freestyle and greco) a rare if not unprecedented achievement for an Alaskan.
A member of the Avalanche Wrestling Club, Novelli competes in the 12U 78-pound weight class.
He among a large group of Alaskans to compete at USA Wrestling Kids Nationals and earn podium spots.
Kanin Kumfer also earned a freestyle National Championship. Mick Dobbs and Makai Garo joined Novelli as greco National Champions.
Earlier this spring Novelli also earned a championship at the USA Wrestling- US Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. He currently owns an 89-3 record against statewide and national competition.
