Age or time away from competition is no impediment for Anchorage bodybuilder Philip Bradfield.

Bradfield, 79, was named the Alaska Athlete of the Week after winning the NPC Masters’ National Championship for the age 70+ division July 20 in Pittsburgh.

A personal trainer in Anchorage, he won the same competition in 1997 at age 54.

“I took a 24-year layoff and this is my comeback show,” Bradfield said in an interview with NPC News Online.

The other finalists this week were NHL hockey player Nate Thompson and trail runners Ben and Christy Marvin.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
