Soldotna High School senior Abriella Werner was selected as our Alaska Athlete of the Week after putting on a show at the 2023 ASAA State Swim/Dive Championships.
Werner won the girls state diving competition with a meet score of 464.8 – the third highest score in ASAA history.
She is the first female from the Kenai Peninsula to ever win a state individual diving title.
Werner broke the Region 3 meet diving record the week before and holds both the 6-dive and 11-dive records at Soldotna High School.
Winning a state title completed a remarkable ascension in the sport for Werner. She didn’t begin diving until her sophomore year when an injury prevented her from continuing with gymnastics.
