Two wrestlers from East High and two from South High maintained their undefeated status over the weekend by winning Cook Inlet Conference championships.
South’s Aaron Concepcion (160 pounds) and Jessailah Thammavongsa (165, girls division) both ran their records to 24-0 with victories in Saturday’s championship round at South High.
East’s Kenton Cooke and Max Francisco also remained undefeated, with Cooke running his record to 26-0 with a title at 140 pounds and Francisco moving to 25-0 at 112 pounds.
South claimed both team titles. The boys racked up 518 points to swamp runnerup Eagle River, which finished with 237 points. The girls had 72 points to get past Service’s 59 points.
In the Northern Lights Conference, Colony claimed the boys team title by holding off Soldotna, 417-390.5. Soldotna took the girls team title with 270 points, with Colony finishing second with 183.
Colony’s Amelia Fawcett pushed her undefeated record to 25-0 by taking the girls title at 145 pounds.
Here are the individual champions in the Cook Inlet Conference and the Northern Lights Conference. Next up for wrestlers is the state championships, which run Friday and Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.
