Seward swimmer Lydia Jacoby outkicked the lead group to earn a come-from-behind victory Friday in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke at the Big 12 Championships in Morgantown, W.V.
The University of Texas sophomore defended her title in 57.27 seconds, a time that broke her own meet record of 57.65 set last season. Her time Friday also set a pool record.
Jacoby was third at the halfway point behind Cincinnati’s Joleigh Crye and Texas teammate Anna Elendt.
But the Alaskan closed the gap and dropped the hammer over the final 25 yards.
Jacoby is a closer; it’s her MO, and she lived up to her reputation at the Big 12 Championships by shutting down the competition down the stretch to post the fourth-fastest time in the nation.
Elendt was second in 57.26, followed by Crye in 58.24.
Jacoby’s time was the fourth-fastest in program history, while Elendt’s was the 14th-best. The duo has combined for the 24 fastest times in UT history.
