Mushing star Dallas Seavey is our Alaska Athlete of the Week.
The 37-year-old Talkeetna resident became the first person to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race six times.
Seavey and his team finished the 52nd Iditarod at 5:16pm on Tuesday, March 12th, in a time of 9 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 8 seconds.
He was previously tied with Rick Swenson for the most victories in the Last Great Race with five.
Seavey has now won six of the 13 Iditarods he’s competed in and has finished in no lower than 4th place in his last nine races.

- Tyson Flaharty, Miron Golfman and Kinsey Loan – Flaharty of Fairbanks and Golfman of Anchorage biked to the overall victory in the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Invitational. It took the co-winners 16 days — nearly twice as long as the top Iditarod finishers, who shared the trail with the race’s bikers, skiers and runners. Kinsey Loan of Anchorage was the first woman to finish in 21+ days.
- Murphy Kimball – The Anchorage’s skier and West High student cruised to a gold medal Wednesday at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Lake Placid, New York, further establishing himself as one of the nation’s best young sprinters.
- Samuel Lockhart – The Thunder Mountain basketball player starred in leading the Falcons to the Southeast Conference boys tourney championship, including a 39 point effort (9 three-pointers) and 24 points in the 4th quarter to lead his the Falcons to a 66-63 win over #1 Ketchikan.
- Bryce Monrean and Trent Powell – Monrean from Anchorage and Powell from Soldotna combined for four total points over the weekend as the Anchorage Wolverines’ unbeaten streak (12-0-1) stretched to 13 games after a 4-0 win Friday and 5-4 overtime shootout loss versus the visiting Minnesota Wilderness.
