Wasilla High’s Mylee Anderson and Nome-Beltz High’s Finn Gregg turned in command performances on Alaska’s grandest basketball stage to lead their respective teams to state titles.

The basketball standouts are our Alaska Athlete of the Week co-winners.

Anderson, a do-everything junior for the 22-5 Warriors, averaged 22 points over three games at the 2024 March Madness Alaska Class 4A girls basketball tournament and added tourney totals of 16 rebounds,11 steals and eight assists.

In Saturday’s 35-32 state-championship win over Colony at the Alaska Airlines Center, she scored a game-high 21 points, including Wasilla’s final 12.

Junior guard Gregg was the heart and soul of the Nanooks team that ended the season with a 24-4 record and their second title in three years. He averaged 21.6 points per game over Nome’s three tournament wins and logged 20 rebounds, 11 steals and 11 assists.

The floor general and shot-maker came through with big play after big play in leading Nome to a come-from-behind semifinals win over Grace and a dramatic 63-61 victory over Mt. Edgecumbe in the 3A Alaska March Madness title game,

  • JC Schoonmaker and Novie McCabe – The APU skiers sprinted their way to national championships Saturday in Duluth, Minnesota, with the pair winning classic sprint finals.
  • Mac Swanson – The Ancorage junior hockey left winger for the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League delivered a pair of two-point performances for the league leaders and extended his point streak to a career-best 11 games.
