He threw a no-hitter in high school and now Curtis Hebert of Anchorage has a no-no in the West Coast League, although he’ll have to share credit for this one.
Hebert threw two innings of relief and combined on the first no-hitter in the seven-year history of the Ridgefield Raptors on Tuesday night in a 10-0 win over the Yakima Valley Pippins in southwest Washington.
Pepperdine’s Dylan Stewart started for Ridgefield and went the first five innings before giving way to Hebert, a rising junior out of the University of Portland. Hebert retired six of the seven batters he faced before Chaminade’s Mac Elske came in and closed it out with the final two innings.
The three pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts, with Hebert racking up two of them.
The former Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year out of South High needed just nine pitches to produce a 1-2-3 sixth inning and then worked around a walk in the seventh.
This was his first appearance on the bump for Ridgefield (3-6), but not his first game. The versatile infielder saw time at shortstop and third base in four previous appearances and went 4-for-13 (.308) with three walks, two runs and one RBI.
As a sophomore this season at Portland, Hebert made 12 appearances out of the bullpen and posted a 1-0 record with one save and a 4.43 ERA. He struck out 14 in 20.1 innings.
Hebert is just the sixth Alaskan to record at least one win and one save in the same Division I season.
In 2022, as a high school senior, he no-hit Wasilla with 11 Ks in a 6-1 win.
