Terrell Peter

Terrell Peter of Fairbanks went to a lot of UAF basketball games growing up, so putting on a Nanooks jersey is personal.

After spending the last two seasons at Bellevue College in Seattle, the 6-foot-3 forward got the opportunity to return home and it’s something he will not take for granted.

“I always thought how special it would be to come back and play in front of friends and family in my hometown,” he said.

Now it’s really happening.

A former all-state high school player out of West Valley, Peter prides himself of being a man of town and hopes to make an impact on and off the court.

“Coming back to be a positive role model in the community for the youth has always been a goal for me and I am excited for that,” he said.

Peter is the latest player from the state to sign with an Alaska college team. UAF also signed Anchorage’s Demarcus
Hall-Scriven and Fairbanks’ Isaac Garcia while UAA has bagged Anchorage’s Da’Zhon Wyche and Jaron Williams in addition to already having Wasilla’s Luke Devine and Anchorage’s Evan Hoosier on roster.

“With more local guys at each of the Alaska schools will definitely make the rivalry a lot more personal,” Peter said. “Guys on each team will be looking to hold it down for their hometown so the games will be very exciting and fun to be a part of for sure.”

Peter comes to UAF from Bellevue, where he averaged 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 39 career games in the NWAC. His stats are a little misleading because he played most of last season with a back injury.

As a freshman, he pumped in 26 points in 25 minutes against Edmonds on 10-of-15 shooting.

When healthy, Peter is a slick southpaw slasher who can finish around the rim in traffic. He can be a hand full for opponents once he gets a head of steam.

“Getting to the basket and finishing has always been a big part of how I play,” he said. “I feel like being from Alaska, it creates a type of toughness within you to always want to go at the person ahead of you.”
