South High hockey goaltender Cooper Kinnear earned Alaska Athlete of the Week honors after logging a jaw-dropping performance in the Wolverines memorable Cook Inlet Conference tournament semifinal victory over West.

The junior netminder stopped 69 shots on goal in 93 minutes, 27 seconds of game action during the seven overtime thriller.

Kinnear and South scored a 4-3 victory over when sophomore Bryce Webb scored 27 seconds into the seventh overtime.

His busiest chunk of work in the 3.5-hour epic came when he made 13 saves in the fifth eight-minute OT period.

South would go on to lose 3-0 to Chugiak in the CIC final and is the 5th for the 2023 D1 Hockey State Championships beginning Thursday.

The Alaska Athlete of the Week is selected by a panel each Monday.
