Anchorage’s Sean Rash had his dreams of winning a fifth professional title derailed in Korea over the weekend by an Aussie with the funny two-handed delivery.
Jason Belmonte defeated Rash 210-191 in the championship match of the Korea Professional Association’s Korea Cup, pocketing $25,750. Rash got much less.
Belmonte averaged a score of more than 250 in pool play to earn the No. 1 seed for the five-player stepladder finals, which were broadcasted live on local TV.
Rash was seeded fourth and won three straight matches to reach the final.
The Alaskan, of Jewel Lake Bowl fame, started his title run with a 239-194 win over 13-time PBA champion and 2006 Player of the Year Tommy Jones.
From there, Rash beat a pair of local Koreans by identical 234-222 scores. Weird, eh?
The Korea Cup featured 204 bowlers, including 13 PBA stars like Rash.
And because the tournament was on TV, Rash snapped a personal five-match losing streak under the bright lights on his road to the final.
