Alev Kelter

Eagle River’s Alev Kelter helped the United States do something it hasn’t done since 1998.

The Americans reached the semifinals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland after finishing second in Pool B play to snag the fourth and final berth to the medal round.

They advanced despite a 47-26 loss to world champion England in the final game of pool play.

Team USA will face New Zealand on Tuesday in the semifinals, with the winner guaranteeing a medal and a shot at the gold medal.

England and France will meet in the other semifinals.

Kelter, of Chugiak High fame, started and scored a pair of two-point conversions. She ranks fifth in the World Cup with six conversions in the tournament.
