Rash wins PBA title, jumps to 5th in Storm Cup points race

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but professional bowler Sean Rash of Anchorage was both in the championship match of the Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic in Middletown, Delaware.

He threw seven straight strikes – including one when he missed the pocket – to beat reigning Tour player of the year EJ Tackett 257-223 to capture his first title of the season and 12th of his PBA career.

Rash, of Dimond High fame, earned $15,000 and 25 points in the PBA Xtra Frame Storm Cup points race, which moved him into fifth place going into the season’s final event in Coldwater, Ohio.

He has now cashed in 12 of 15 events this year.

In the Cup race, he has compiled 54 points, just six ahead of No. 6 and 14 behind No. 4. Tackett leads the way with 83 points.

Another strong performance will secure a bonus payday for Rash.

The 34-year-old has been a staple on the PBA Tour, winning a title in nine of his 12 seasons and racking up $1.2 million in career earnings. Of his 12 titles, two are major championships.
