Journey Miller
Journey Miller needed time to find her place in college, and judging from her last two games, she’s settled in nicely in her new hockey home.
The forward from Soldotna has delivered big for Long Island University. Miller’s goal and primary assist Friday night in a 4-0 victory over Post gives her five points in the last two games after going without a point in her first five appearances for the Sharks this season.
Miller scored her first points as a collegian a week ago when she bagged two goals and a helper in a 9-3 win over St. Michael’s.
Miller transferred to Long Island this season after starting her career at Minnesota State-Mankato, where she appeared in four games last season.
She made the jump to college hockey after a strong youth career in high school and club hockey.
Miller played for the Soldotna High team consisting mostly of boys and as a senior helped propel to Stars to a state runner-up finish. She was also a principal contributor to two straight conference titles. Miller also played in the Alaska All-Stars competition program, which helped her greatly strengthen her game against elite competition.
In other women’s college hockey action Friday night, Anchorage’s Emma Wuthrich furnished an assist for Boston University in its 2-1 loss at UConn. Wuthrich, who owns 3-1—4 totals in nine games this season, has 2-1—3 totals in the last four games. In 87 career games, the senior forward has generated 13-10—23 totals.
