Adam Hendrix

Anchorage’s Adam Hendrix and Juneau’s Jacob Thibodeau led Alaskans in cashes at the World Series of Poker last year in Las Vegas.

This year’s event is shaping up the same.

Hendrix has cashed in two events already at the 54th annual WSOP and earned $56,274. He finished 30th out of 264 players in the $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold ‘Em 8-Handed event to pocket $50,000 after getting his WSOP started by finishing 328th out of 18,188 entries in the $1,000 Mystery Millions No-Limit event to earn $4,680.

Hendrix last year cashed an Alaska-best 14 times in the WSOP to earn $317,926 and finish 24th in the WSOP Player of the Year standings. Since 2017, he has cashed 84 times in WSOP and WSOP-affiliated events to earn $1.14 million. His career earnings top $4 million, according to poker databases.

Thibodeau is off to a strong start with two cashes this year for $12,468 in winnings. He finished 112th in the $1,000 Mystery Millions to earn $7,380 and followed that with a 77th-place finish, out of 2,454 players, in the $1,5006-Handed No-Limit event to cop $5,088.

Jacob Thibodeau

Thibodeau last year cashed four times at the WSOP to earn $9,678. Since 2019, he has cashed in 25 WSOP and WSOP-affiliated events to earn $184,398.

Seven Alaskans have already cashed in WSOP events this year.

Among those seven was Anchorage’s Perry Green, who owns three bracelets, which are coveted in the poker world because they signify victories at the WSOP. Green won his bracelets in 1976, 1977 and 1979. In 1981, he finished runner-up in the WSOP’s Main Event, falling in a heads-up matchup with the legendary Stu Unger. He earned $150,000 for second place.

Green this year finished 139th among 1,143 players in the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better event to earn $2,630.

The WSOP is the longest-running, most lucrative tournament in poker. This year’s event, which is being played at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and the Paris Las Vegas Casino and Hotel, features 115 events – 95 are live events, 20 are online events. The WSOP began on May 30 and runs through July 18.

In 2022, 53 different Alaskans cashed a total of 80 times in 34 events.

Check back for updates, likely at least weekly.
