Christy Marvin continues to carve out her legacy as one of Alaska’s all-time greatest distance runners.
The 43-year-old became the winningest runner in the 60-year history of the Equinox Marathon Saturday in Fairbanks, an achievement that earned her our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
The Palmer resident overcame a challenge from Shalane Frost and completed the arduous course in Fairbanks in 3 hours, 19 minutes and 53 seconds to take the women’s title.
Marvin, who last won in 2019, now has seven victories in the race, and separated herself from six-time champions Stan Justice, Bob Murphy and Matias Saari.
Marvin won her eighth Crow Pass Crossing and her third Mount Marathon race this summer. She is the first person, male or female, to win all three of Alaska’s historic races in the same year.
