Anchorage soccer player Sammy Twenhafel registered two assists in helping lead the Willamette to a 4-0 win over Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The South High alum’s two helpers were double his season assist total coming into the game and they came on a night when he and the six other seniors on the team were honored.
Twenhafel’s first assist helped open the scoring at 38:41. His second came in the form of a corner kick that was headed in from seven yards out by fellow senior Jett Star.
The Bearcats are 6-9-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the Northwest Conference as the team begins the final stretch of the schedule.
A two-time all-conference player (no senior season due to Covid) at South and member of the Wolverine’s 2017 state championship squad, Twenhafel is part of a graduating core at Willamette that’s had great success during their tenure with the program.
The Bearcats came into this season with a 34-7-4 record the past three years. They won the NW Conference in 2022 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Div III.
A speedy defender known for his rock solid play on the back line, Twenhafel was hampered by injuries early this season is finally healthy, as Willamette looks to make a late season push.
Twenhafel has played in 44 games and started 14 over his career at Willamette. His senior night performance brings his career assist total to five.
