The best day of Anchorage Nordic skier JC Schoonmaker’s racing career earned him a World Cup bronze medal.
It also garnered him our Alaska Athlete of the Week honors.
The 23-year-old became one of a handful of U.S. men to reach the podium in the history of sprint racing with his third-place finish in the World Cup sprint race in Ostersund, Sweden.
Schoonmaker is from California but has spent the last several years living in Alaska, where was a two-time NCAA All-American during four seasons at UAA, and is now in his second season with the APU elite team.
