Adam Hendrix has been Alaska’s most prosperous poker player for years now, and he continued his roll Saturday, when he finished fourth in a World Series of Poker event in Las Vegas to pocket $125,074.
Hendrix, of Anchorage, made it to the final table of nine players before he was eliminated in the $800 No-Limit Hold ‘Em Deepstack event that began with 4,278 entries.
Saturday marked the sixth time Hendrix has cashed at the 2024 WSOP. Those six cashes have earned him $178K in winnings. Add the $160K or so he won in a “bounty’’ event and he’s hauled in $338K at this WSOP.
From the 2021 WSOP to this WSOP, Hendrix has cashed 40 times for about $1,500,000. His career earnings, in live events and online events, tops $7.5 million.
Hendrix’s fourth place Saturday tied for his career second-highest finish in a WSOP event. In 2017, the year he quit his job as a software engineer to devote himself to poker full-time, he finished second in a Pot-Limit Omaha event at the WSOP.
Until Hendrix’s cash Saturday, Sterling Lopez of Anchorage owned the highest, most lucrative finish this year. Lopez finished 10th in the $10,000 PLO Hi-Lo 8 or Better to earn $34,847. He has cashed twice at this WSOP for $38,950.
Mario Fata of Juneau has cashed three times at this WSOP for $7,658.
The WSOP is the biggest, most lucrative event in poker and runs for nearly two months, culminating with the Main Event, a No-Limit tournament that is considered the most prestigious title in poker.
Each WSOP event champion earns the bracelet coveted by poker players. Hendrix is still seeking his first bracelet, but earlier this year won a ring that goes to the winner of a WSOP circuit event.
