A third season with the Peninsula Oilers has been the charm for pitcher Mose Hayes of Homer.
The right-hander capped his best season with the Alaska Baseball League team in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Chinooks with eight shutout innings.
Hayes started and carried a shutout into the ninth inning before he was pulled in favor of a reliever after 108 pitches.
He scattered four hits and one walk while striking out seven to improve his record to 3-1.
Hayes lowered his ERA to 2.70, which ranks fifth in the ABL.
The Alaskan has posted career highs in wins (3), innings (33.1) and strikeouts (29). His ERA is also three runs lower than last season, when he made 10 appearances and went 2-2 with a 6.07 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.
Hayes plays his college ball for Yuma Community College in Arizona. In two seasons, he has racked up 94 strikeouts in 89.1 innings in 35 career appearances.
