Dimond High School’s do-it-all speedster Mai Mateaki was voted our Alaska Athlete of the Week winner after leading the Lynx to a decisive win over South High in the conference championship game.
The senior ran for 113 yds and two touchdowns. She also threw a TD pass as time expired in the first half to give Dimond a commanding 13-0 lead.
The 4-year varsity player was recently named Offensive Player of the Year and was also named First Team All Defense
She ran for 1,717 yards and 20 TD’s on the season, averaging 9.8 yds a carry, in addition to racking up big passing numbers as a part-time quarterback.
Over her spectacular flag football career Mateaki amassed over 7,000 total yards of offense.
Also receiving votes: South High football player Noah Goodwin, UAA hockey player Porter Schachle of Wasilla, Tacoma Community College soccer player David Elliott of Colony High, Boston Bruins hockey player Jeremy Swayman of Anchorage.
