Much like a great rally on the court, the Alaska Anchorage and Nebraska-Kearney college volleyball programs have had a little back-and-forth when it comes to the NCAA Division II single-match home attendance record.
UAA broke the previous record in 2022 with 3,888 fans only to see Kearney come back last year to take the crown with 4,003 fans.
The Seawolves have set out to break the record again, and they have teamed with the Alaska School Activities Association to co-host the inaugural Alaska Volleyball Day on Saturday, Nov. 16.
That’s the same day of the ASAA Class 4A and 3A state championship matches, will take place earlier Saturday to serve as an appetizer for the nightcap featuring UAA and UAF as the Seawolves attempt to reestablish the attendance record.
“We are excited to partner this year with ASAA to bring a whole day of championship-level volleyball to the Alaska Airlines Center,” head coach Stacie Meisner said in a press release.
“Nebraska-Kearney took the record back from us last year, so we are promoting the mantra of ‘Pack the House – 4K4 In the Door’ for our match against UAF. We’re extremely excited about our team this year and look forward to giving our fans reasons to cheer on Nov. 16 and throughout the season.”
really cool stuff in the works this year at UAA!
(the D2 volleyball attendance record is currently held by Nebraska-Kearney, who UAA claimed it from briefly in 2022 – @Amie_Just a good reason for a return trip to AK, perhaps ☺️) pic.twitter.com/15LELy4aD8
